[details] Posted: 05 Dec 2013 01:58 PM PST  Nelson Mandela, the revered statesman who emerged from prison after 27 years to lead South Africa out of decades of apartheid, has died, South African President Jacob Zuma announced late Thursday. He was 95. The former president battled health issues in recent months, including a recurring lung infection that led to numerous hospitalizations. With advancing age and bouts of illness, Mandela retreated to a quiet life at his boyhood home in the nation's Eastern Cape Province, where he said he was most at peace. Despite rare public appearances, he held a special place in the nation's consciousness.  In his lifetime, he was a man of complexities. He went from a militant freedom fighter, to a prisoner, to a unifying figure, to an elder statesman. Years after his 1999 retirement from the presidency, Mandela was considered the ideal head of state. He became a yardstick for African leaders, who consistently fell short when measured against him. Warm, lanky and charismatic in his silk, earth-toned dashikis, he was quick to admit to his shortcomings, endearing him further in a culture in which leaders rarely do. His steely gaze disarmed opponents. So did his flashy smile. Former South African President F.W. de Klerk, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize with Mandela in 1993 for transitioning the nation from a system of racial segregation, described their first meeting. "I had read, of course, everything I could read about him beforehand. I was well-briefed," he said last year. "I was impressed, however, by how tall he was. By the ramrod straightness of his stature, and realized that this is a very special man. He had an aura around him. He's truly a very dignified and a very admirable person." | 'Disabled' Mannequins make you REASSESS 'Beauty'! [video] Posted: 05 Dec 2013 01:19 PM PST What is BEAUTY? Beauty to you may mean something DIFFERENT  Pro Infirmis, an organization for the disabled, created a series of mannequins based on real people with physical disabilities, working with individuals like Jasmine Rechsteiner, a Miss Handicap winner who has spine malformations, and Erwin Aljukić, an actor with brittle bone disease. The project's title? "Because Who Is Perfect? Get Closer." The beautiful process was documented in a video (watch it below), capturing the joy of the models seeing their own unique figures recreated for the first time. But the best part of it all is that the mannequins were actually placed in store windows today, filling the shopfronts on Zurich's main downtown street, Bahnhofstrasse, in honor of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (Dec 3). "Seeing it there for real is quite a shock," said one of the video participants. And that's exactly the point. Raising awareness of those with disabilities, specifically in the realm of fashion, is a conversation that's already begun with groups such as Models of Diversity, which aims to bring models of all shapes, sizes and colors to the fashion runways and media. | WATCH: Touching #PaulWalker Tribute from the #FastandFurious Franchise [video] Posted: 05 Dec 2013 01:05 PM PST  The "Fast & Furious" franchise's YouTube page has released a tribute video to Paul Walker. The 40-year-old starred in five of the six "Fast & Furious" films before his death on Nov. 30 following injuries sustained in a car accident. Walker played Brian O'Conner in the Universal Pictures film series, and was on a break from filming "Fast and Furious 7" at the time of his death. Production on that film has been stopped until further notice. "Right now, all of us at Universal are dedicated to providing support to Paul's immediate family and our extended 'Fast & Furious' family of cast, crew and filmmakers," a representative for Universal said in a statement on Wednesday. "At this time we feel it is our responsibility to shut down production on 'Fast & Furious 7' for a period of time so we can assess all options available to move forward with the franchise." R.I.P. That's the current situation for RHOA's Porsha Williams and Kordell Stewart! The divorce is FINAL and Kordell is THRILLED and is glad that Porsha is reverting to her Maiden name. Kordell SLAMS his wife in the media as being a 'HORRIBLE' person. You may remember that sense the divorce proceedings, Porsha has been insinuating that Kordell is GAY--which could very well be true.
