[video] Posted: 07 Jul 2014 04:19 PM PDT  You've heard it a million times, and it's also been sampled by some of the greats in HIP HOP. But do you know the HISTORY behind it? Twenty-seven years ago today, pioneering rap duo, Eric B. & Rakim released their 'Paid In Full' album! Can you believe it's been 27 years!!!?? Some of my readers were not even BORN 27 years ago, but still know this song! Let's go in DETAIL about the DEPTH of this album and what it meant to HIP HOP! Paid in Full is the debut album of American hip hop duo Eric B. & Rakim, released on July 7, 1987, by Island-subsidiary label 4th & B'way Records. The duo recorded the album at hip hop producer Marley Marl's home studio and Power Play Studios in New York City, following Rakim's response to Eric B.'s search for a rapper to complement his disc jockey work in 1985. The album peaked at number fifty-eight on the Billboard 200 chart and produced five singles, "Eric B. Is President", "I Ain't No Joke", "I Know You Got Soul", "Move the Crowd", and "Paid in Full". Paid in Full is credited as a benchmark album of golden age hip hop. Rakim's rapping, which pioneered the use of internal rhymes in hip hop, set a higher standard of lyricism in the genre and served as a template for future rappers. The album's heavy sampling by Eric B. became influential in hip hop production. The record has sold over a million copies and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it platinum in 1995. In 2003, the album was ranked number 228 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. "Paid in Full", was released as a single in 1987 and later remixed by the production duo Coldcut. The remix used several vocal samples, most prominently "Im Nin'Alu" by Israeli singer Ofra Haza.[29] In 2008, the song was ranked at number 24 on VH1's "100 Greatest Hip Hop Songs". | Celebrity Shade: #Prince SHUTS #LilMo DOWN after #EssenceFestival Instagram Rant! [details] Posted: 07 Jul 2014 03:48 AM PDT  I was not going to touch on this because we HEART Lil' Mo and of course we LOVE Prince, but it is a HOT TOPIC, so we are going to touch on it and let it go. BY NOW you heard that over the weekend at the Essence Music Festival, Lil' Mo got treated less than fairly at the Superdome as she recounts. What happened was, Lil' Mo and a few members of her crew were HELD UP by security because Prince was about to start his HIGHLY-ANTICIPATED set onstage. According to Mo, she was not allowed backstage to use the restroom because security was making way for Prince to enter the stage. And of course the pint-sized 'Diva' did not take too kindly to that little delay. She took to Instagram to express her FRUSTRATION and then all hell broke loose. Prince fans POUNCED on Mo!  Also, surprisingly, Prince CLAPPED BACK at Mo's IG rant as well! Get the DETAILS here! 1st let's go back to what Mo posted that set all this in MOTION!  Now that's not TOO BAD, right. But Oh NO, she wasn't finished with her rant. Allegedly she went in on Prince's SINGING, saying he was less than STELLAR!?  WOW? Prince is a LIVING LEGEND, but she went there!  REAL recognizes real, of course, but do you think Mo went too far!? WE say YES! Prince is an ICON. Prince has blazed paths that Lil' Mo can just dream about. Certain LEGENDS just DESERVE REVERENCE and RESPECT to the UTMOST and Prince is one of them. If there was a problem or issue with security, then address them. All the other stuff was just blown out of proportion and of course it won't go over well with the fans. But there is MORE. PRINCE shuts it all down or at least his fans did.  Y'all know PRINCE was UN BOTHERED by Lil' Mo and did not EVEN need to REPLY. He's PRINCE. Lil' Mo you are going to have to explain this one. It's okay for you to come for people like Keyshia Cole or Ciara, but going after PRINCE and his LEGIONS of fans? Wrong move indeed! The FANS go for BLOOD! IJS.
