| #JasonCollins SIGNS to the #BrooklynNets! [details] Posted: 23 Feb 2014 12:48 PM PST  Jason Collins will become the first openly gay athlete in North America's four major professional sports when he signs a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets and plays against the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday evening at Staples Center, sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.  The Nets moved quickly to make the historic signing of the 35-year-old free agent center to have another big body available against the Lakers. Brooklyn had been contemplating signing Collins for the past week and the need for Collins became greater after the Nets dealt rebounding specialist Reggie Evans to the Sacramento Kings last week. ESPN.com reported that the Nets quietly auditioned Collins last week in Los Angeles, paving the way from him to rejoin the franchise he spent his first six-plus seasons in the league. The Nets were in the running to land Glen Davis but Davis opted to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers and informed teams of his decision. Davis is set to officially become an unrestricted free agent Sunday at 5 p.m. ET if, as expected, he is not claimed off waivers by another team. Collins hasn't played in an NBA game since April 2013 with the Washington Wizards. He's been working out on his own for months in the L.A. area after failing to earn an invite to training camp from any of the league's 30 teams in the wake of revealing his sexual orientation to Sports Illustrated in April of last year. Collins is reunited with Nets coach Jason Kidd, who played with the defensive-minded big man in New Jersey from 2001-08, making two trips together to the NBA Finals. Collins also played with Nets guard Joe Johnson for three seasons in Atlanta and spent half of the 2012-13 season in Boston alongside Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett before being traded to the Washington Wizards. Collins also is friends with injured Nets center Brook Lopez, who like Collins played alongside his twin brother at Stanford.  "Great competitor, plays team basketball, is for the team, great guy, great character," Garnett told reporters on Saturday morning about Collins.Garnett also scoffed at the notion that Collins' orientation with the Nets would be any sort of issue with the team. "I think it's important that anybody who has the capabilities and skill level [gets] a chance to [do] something he's great at," Garnett said. "I think it would be bias, and in a sense, racist, if you [were] to keep that opportunity from a person." The Nets' signing of Collins comes not long after University of Missouri defensive end Michael Sam announced he is gay earlier this month in an ESPN "Outside The Lines" interview. Sam, though, can't make his official NFL debut until the fall. Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Robbie Rogers became the first openly gay male athlete to play in a U.S. professional sports league when he made his Major League Soccer debut in May 2013, just three months after coming out. And John Amaechi, who spent five seasons in the NBA with Orlando, Utah and Cleveland, disclosed his sexuality three years after his playing career ended in a 2007 book entitled "Man In The Middle." Sam approached the podium and began: "My name is Michael Sam. I play football for the University of Missouri. As you may know, Missouri is the Show-Me State, and I think I'd have shown you guys enough these last couple weeks. "But I'm learning with the media. You guys still want more, so ask your questions and I'll answer them the best I can." Once the questions started coming, he was nervous at first but then settled in. Wearing a "Stand with Sam" button on his combine workout shirt, he was poised, charming at times, humorous at others, and usually direct with his answers.  "I hope all you guys Stand with Sam by the way," he said, laughing. "Please do. I went to a (Mizzou) basketball game against Tennessee. A very kind lady gave (the button) to me. I gave her a hug and I got a lot of support out there."Once the questions started coming, he was nervous at first but then settled in. I gave her a hug and I got a lot of support out there." Sam has gotten a groundswell of support since his announcement, particularly from Mizzou. The support at Mizzou is one thing, but what happens next in the NFL? Will he be fully accepted in the locker room? What about the fans? The front office? Etc. So far, the public support by NFL coaches, general managers, and team executives has been unwavering since his announcement, and that has continued to be the case at the combine. Arizona coach Bruce Arians for example, said, "Every locker room I've been in, it's been all about winning. If you had a hand in us winning, and you were different, guys accepted it." Sam was asked how he'd handle a locker room such as Miami's, where racial, ethnic, and homophobic slurs were evident — if not commonplace — according to the recently released Wells report on the Richie Incognito/Jonathan Martin bullying scandal. "If the Miami Dolphins drafted me, I would be excited to be a part of that organization," Sam insisted. "I'm not afraid (about) going into that environment. I know how to handle myself. I know how to communicate with my teammates. I know how to communicate with the coaches." But what if he encountered harassment or hostility in an NFL locker room? Does Sam have a strategy? Would he fight? "If someone wants to call me a name, I will have a conversation with that guy and hopefully it won't lead to anything else," Sam said. Sam, who's projected as a mid-round pick, said he didn't know how his announcement would affect his draft status. "I am not a GM, I do not have control over my draft status," Sam said. "All I can control is me preparing myself to get the best scores out there." He was referring to his combine workout, which takes place Monday. At one point, Sam was asked if he would rather get asked some football questions. "Heck yeah," Sam said, laughing. "I wish you guys would just say: 'Hey, Michael Sam. How's football going?' I would love for you to ask me that questions. But it is what it is. "I just wish you guys would ask me about Michael Sam the football player instead of Michael Sam the gay football player." Are Keri Hilson and NBA baller Serge Ibaka STILL SMASHING!?!? Earlier this year it was HINTED that the two were SPLITSVILLE. But recently the two were spotted together in L.A. ALLEGEDLY, that is.... Bossip got a SCOOP that the two were seen together as recently as this past weekend: "Keri Hilson was at Chocolate Sundaes Comedy Show in Hollywood this past weekend with Serge Ibaka. They sat in a private corner together and came in together." Now that is not enough to CONFIRM that they indeed are still SMASHING. | Sunday Energy Shot: #Coko 'At Your Feet' [audio] Posted: 22 Feb 2014 11:45 PM PST  The season finale of "SWV Reunited" last week really left us unclear as to the fate of SWV. It ended with the girls not being able to get out of their record deal and with Coko expressing that she had no desire to move forward with the group if they couldn't be released from the contract. Well, it looks like Coko stayed true to her word and has decided to move forward with her new solo project. The song she recorded on the show, "At Your Feet," was just released and made available for purchase digitally. Take a listen!
