[video] Posted: 12 Mar 2014 02:47 PM PDT  The Los Angeles Lakers have ruled Kobe Bryant out for the remainder of the season after a re-examination of the veteran guard's injured knee showed it still hadn't healed, the team announced Wednesday. "Obviously this has been a frustrating and disappointing season, but I appreciate all the support I've received from the Lakers and the fans and look forward to being back and ready for the start of training camp," Bryant said in a statement released by the team. Bryant addressed the media later Wednesday and said he has high expectations for when he returns. "I don't want to say I'll be back at the top of my game, because everybody is going to think I'm crazy and an old player not letting go, that sort of thing," Bryant said. "But that's what it's going to be." Bryant was examined Wednesday by team physician Steve Lombardo. "With Kobe's injury still not healed, the amount of time he'd need to rehab and be ready to play, and the amount of time remaining in the season, we've simply run out of time for him to return," Lakers trainer Gary Vitti said in a statement. "However, Kobe will have the entire offseason to heal, rehab and prepare, and we look forward to him being 100 percent for the start of next season."  In all, Bryant played six games this season, averaging 13.8 points, 6.3 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 42.5 percent shooting from the field. The Lakers are 22-42, tied for the worst record in the Western Conference. Los Angeles signed Bryant to a two-year, $48.5 million contract extension in November. The five-time NBA champion called his recovery "a slow process" during a news conference in New Orleans at All-Star Weekend last month. (ESPN)   |

[video] Posted: 12 Mar 2014 02:05 PM PDT  New York (CNN) -- A gas leak unleashed a massive explosion and raging fire in Manhattan's East Harlem Wednesday, leveling two five-story apartment buildings, killing two people and wounding more than two dozen others, authorities said.A law enforcement source said that about 10 people remained missing hours after the blast. Firefighters were still frantically picking through rubble in search of survivors. The number of injured climbed through the afternoon: At least 27 were reported injured. Harlem Hospital received 13 patients, including a child in critical condition, a hospital spokeswoman said. Mount Sinai Hospital was treating 22 patients, including a woman with head trauma in intensive care. Three were in serious condition, a spokeswoman said earlier Wednesday. Many patients came in on their own. Some of the patients were children. The injured included two FBI agents who were in the vicinity of the explosion, said New York FBI spokesman Chris Sinos. The injuries were not life-threatening. The identifies of the two women who died were not available. More fatalities appeared likely. Fire officials reported that two survivors suffered life-threatening injuries. Near 116th Street and Park Avenue, once the heart of New York's large Puerto Rican community, about a dozen firefighters tore at two-story-high mounds of bricks in a search for survivors from the two buildings -- a piano store and an evangelical church. As gas and electric utility workers tore up pavement in an effort to shut gas lines, people gathered in the streets, many crying. One woman tried in vain to find her husband, Jordy Salas, who may have been on the second floor of one of the collapsed buildings. She fainted and was taken to a hospital. "We're expending every effort to locate each and every loved one," Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters at the scene. "Hopefully we'll find that some of them are in other parts of the city and have just not been located yet."  The cause was unclear, but Con Ed spokesman Bob McGee said the utility received a call about a gas leak at 9:13 a.m. The call came from a resident at one of the newer buildings on Park Avenue. The utility dispatched a truck two minutes later but it arrived after the explosion, the spokesman said."This is a tragedy of the worst kind, because there was no indication in time to save people," de Blasio said. A building department official said one of the two Park Avenue buildings that collapsed received a city permit last year for the installation of 120 feet of gas piping. The work was completed last June. In 2008, owners of the adjacent building, which also collapsed, were fined for failing to maintain vertical cracks in the rear of the building. | #RED: The #DIGITAL Camera that CHANGED #Hollywood! [details] Posted: 12 Mar 2014 02:30 AM PDT  Anybody into MEDIA, FILM, OR TELEVISION knows that DIGITAL is the way to go in this new ERA! Take a look at how a sunglasses entrepreneur helped end the golden age of the 35-millimeter film camera. n Hollywood history, 2011 will go down as the year during which the last three companies still making traditional 35-millimeter film cameras—the gently whirring behemoths that directors sit next to on movie sets—all said, in effect, that they were getting out of the business. Film cameras would remain in inventory, but Panavision, ARRI, and Aaton announced that from here on out, all their new models will be digital. The analog-to-digital transition that is occurring in industries around the world is largely responsible. But special mention should go to a small Southern California company whose technology has stirred the imagination of a roster of legendary directors. The innovation: a line of digital movie cameras that, almost miraculously, are smaller, lighter, and cheaper than film cameras, yet have comparable image quality. Red Digital Cinema Camera Company, located in Irvine, California, was founded in 1999 by Jim Jannard, who had no experience in the movie business. He was, instead, an entrepreneur who had made a fortune with his line of Oakley sunglasses—must-haves among the California fun-and-sun crowd. While Jannard is an active participant on Red's user forums, he rarely gives interviews to reporters. Ted Schilowitz, who was Red's first employee and serves as a spokesman for the 400-person company, says Jannard originally became intrigued by the idea of a digital camera that would be a no-compromise alternative for feature-movie makers. That interest in cameras, says Schilowitz, was a logical extension of Jannard's Oakley business, which also sold prescription glasses and protective goggles for athletes. "Jim is obsessed with the way the world sees things," Schilowitz says. In the "standard model" of technological disruption, a relatively inexpensive, low-end product, which at first might appeal only to entry-level users, slowly improves in performance until it meets the demands of even the most discriminating power customers. The PC is the prototypical example; current models have the horsepower that until recently was the exclusive province of supercomputers. The path Red took was slightly different. Digital movie cameras were already on the market when the Red team began their work. But the image quality of early digital cameras was nowhere near what was required for a feature movie. Quality was improving—but Jannard wanted his first model to leapfrog past all current digital cameras and exceed the strictest performance specs, even for film. That required several years of engineering, mostly related to the semiconductor chip that is the heart of any digital camera and converts photons into electrons. The Red team came up with a chip that was the same physical size as a frame of 35-mm film, the Hollywood standard, and produced an image that was virtually indistinguishable, albeit digital. "When we looked around, we saw digital cameras slowly moving up the food chain," recalls Schilowitz. "But none of them were even close to living up to what we saw as the magic of film. We didn't really know what we were doing, so we started from zero, but that turned out to be a huge advantage." The first Red model was introduced in 2007, and immediately attracted the attention of filmmakers like Peter Jackson and Steven Soderbergh. Since then, directors have used Red cameras to shoot some of Hollywood's biggest movies, including The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and installments of such blockbuster Hollywood franchises as The Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Spiderman.  The camera also has ardent fans outside the Hollywood mainstream. The last two winners of the Oscar for Best Foreign Film—The Secret In Their Eyes, from Argentina, and last year's In A Better World, from Denmark—were both shot on Reds. Price comparisons between Red and traditional film cameras aren't especially informative, since most film cameras are rented rather than purchased. Schilowitz says that a fully-loaded version of the latest Red model costs between $45,000 and $60,000, perhaps a quarter as much as a new film camera—if anyone were still making them. [details] Posted: 12 Mar 2014 01:28 AM PDT  HIDE YO KIDS because a 27-year sex offender posing as a TEENAGER is/was on the LOOSE! A mother in Houston beat a 27-year-old man she caught hiding in her 13-year-old daughter's bedroom. According to a report by Click 2 Houston, Syrjuan Benson, 27, posed as a 16-year-old in order to date a 13-year-old girl. Benson would hang around the girl's school and he eventually developed a relationship with the teenager. He decided to visit the girl and broke through the teen's bedroom window around 4 a.m. The teen's mother heard noises and checked her daughter's room where she found Benson. He was hiding in a closet and only wearing boxers. The teen's mother began punching Benson in the face and held him down until police arrived. Benson was convicted of sexual assault several months ago. He now faces an indecency charge and more charges will likely be added. (source-RollingOut.com) What is this WORLD coming to?
