The DIVERSITY GAP at the #Oscars by the NUMBERS!! [details]

Posted: 01 Mar 2014 09:55 AM PST

IT'S OSCAR WEEKEND!! As we wait to see what HIGHS, SURPRISES and LOWS we will see, one thing that is CRYSTAL CLEAR is the lack of DIVERSITY when it comes to the AWARDS given.

According to research by book publisher Lee & Low, since the Academy Awards' inception in 1927, the academy has been dominated by whites males. Lee & Low found that, of the 6,000 industry professionals that compose the academy, 94 percent white. Lee & Low also found that only two percent of the academy is black and less than two percent are Latino. Asians and Native Americans round out the academy's six percent minority membership.

When it comes to Oscar winners, only one woman of color as ever been awarded the Best Actress award – Halle Berry in 2002 for her role in Monster's Ball. Just seven percent of the Best Actor award winners have been minorities members, including three black men: Sidney Poitier (1963,) Denzel Washington (2001,) Jamie Foxx (2004) and Forest Whitaker (2006.)

The show's program also reflects a push toward more diversity. With 10 black presenters announced – including Jamie Foxx, Whoopi Goldberg, Michael B. Jordan, Gabourey Sidibe and Sidney Poitier – the presenter list is also one of the most diverse in the Oscars' history

#LionsGate to #TylerPerry: We will NOT be renewing your movie deal! No More #Madea!? [details]

Posted: 01 Mar 2014 08:18 AM PST

It seems that Tyler Perry and Lionsgate Films have decided to PART WAYS!!  Does this mean NO MORE MADEA????

via DEADLINE:

Tyler Perry's longtime and lucrative first-look deal with Lionsgate is not being renewed, though there are still several projects in the pipeline at the studio beyond his upcoming release "Single Mom's Club," which is due out March 14. That means the impact of this split won't be felt for some time. We're even hearing there could be more Madea films for Lionsgate –his last Lionsgate pic was Tyler Perry's A Madea Christmas, which grossed $52.5M when it came out in December.

The decision was mutual between the studio and Perry's 34th Street Production, a source close to the situation says, based on a variety of matters such as international distribution and marketing.

Perry's company is now leaving LA and Perry will consolidate his operations at his Atlanta-based Tyler Perry Studios.

NO MORE MADEA? Well there are still films in production and headed to studios and when one deal falls through, you KNOW Perry has others. So don't FRET. And he is 'in bed' with Oprah Winfrey and her juggernaut machine of an empire. The two of them may start their own film company! So I am sure Tyler will and is doing just FINE!

#WeAreToonz the TWEEN Group behind 'Drop that #NaeNae! [video]

Posted: 01 Mar 2014 03:13 AM PST

I was wondering if we were ever going to have another MONSTER dance song come out of Atlanta- home of 'SNAP DANCING' and 'TWERK MUSIC'.  Low and behold, some HIGH SCHOOL students from the A have just DANCED their way into the RECORD BOOKS and STARDOM--meet, 'We Are Toonz' the teen quintet behind the SUPER POPULAR, 'Drop That #NaeNae'.  Haven't heard of them?  Well you've heard of the song, or seen the accompanying dance, even if you didn't know it's origin....

Get the details and learn how to do the DANCE!

Drop that #NAENAE!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAA!!

From Atlanta -- the city that taught you how to crank that Soulja Boy, shake that laffy taffy, lean with it, rock with it, and walk it out -- comes a new dance that's spreading across the country: the Nae Nae. Developed by teen quintet We Are Toonz, the dance is loosely based on Martin Lawrence's Sheneneh Jenkins character from his 90's sitcom "Martin." Group member CalLamar explains, "It's really just based on a ratchet girl in the club dancing kind of funny and the best girl to describe it is Sheneneh from 'Martin.'"

Through the use of social media, the funny dance -- and its G-Cutz-produced anthem "Drop That #NaeNae" (VPP/Skunkfunk) -- has soared in popularity in high schools across America. The group has used Vine, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube to "reach out to the kids because that's what the kids and the teens are actually on, they're active on those websites," says CalLamar. Consequently, there have been more than 1.1 million mentions of the #NaeNae hashtag in the past 90 days, according to Twitter.

If you think the Nae Nae is only for the kids, however, you'd be wrong. The dance has become so popular that collegiate and professional athletes have adopted it for their on- and off-field celebrations. Following their Jan. 1 Rose Bowl victory over Stanford, the Michigan State locker room became ground zero for joyous Nae Nae-ing.

New Orleans Saints' wide receiver Lance Moore also broke out in the dance on Jan. 4 after scoring a playoff touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles.

One of the song's biggest supporters, literally, is 6'11" Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard. The perennial NBA All-Star shot a Nae Nae-themed skit with We Are Toonz that the group is still reeling from. "When we met Dwight Howard, it was crazy, like, 'We was with him!'" gushes the group's K.B.

"And to be honest, it didn't hit me till after he left 'cause he's like a big kid. He's so fun, a lot of fun to be around." And to add to the group's celebrity-induced excitement, "then we saw TLC doing it!"
