Posted: 31 Jan 2013 09:07 PM PST   The Gamutt salutes all the visionaries, pioneers, activists, Earth-shakers and history makers that made an impact on history. It's just not Black History it is all of our history. It is clear that African-Americans have significantly impacted the development of social, political and economic structures of The United States, and the World. It is important that we celebrate the efforts and achievements that African-Americans have made to society. By educating others about the contributions African-Americans have made, we are thus promoting a better understanding of the people and in turn this promotes more racial harmony.   Woodson was the 2nd African-American to earn a Ph.D from Harvard University ( W.E.B. DuBois was the 1st). In 1915, Dr. Woodson founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life & History, now called the Association for the Study of African-American Life & History. Under Woodson's pioneering leadership, the Association created research and publication outlets for black scholars with the establishment of the Journal of Negro History (1916) and the Negro History Bulletin (1937), which  In 1926, Woodson initiated the Celebration of Negro History Week, which corresponded with the birthdays of the great abolitionist Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, "The Great Emancipator". In 1976, this celebration was expanded to include the entire month. Many people wonder why Black History Month was chosen to be celebrated in the shortest month of the year? This was indeed chosen by design by the actual founder. It was not given to us as a way to slight the African-American experience in any way.  Today Black History Month garners support throughout the country as people of ALL ethnic & social backgrounds discuss, celebrate and embrace the Black Experience. The 'young' Smith offspring has been AXED from the remake!!  Find out WHY after the JUMP!! WIllow was cast to play 'Annie' when she was 9 years old when she looked like THIS.  It appears now that Willow is 'over the hill' and has OUTGROWN the part. Overbrook Entertainment took so long to get the project moving that Willow is now TOO OLD to play Annie. Now that she looks like THIS...  We can see why they PASSED on the project. Director Will Gluck of 'Friends With Benefits' has been brought on to helm the project.. Before answering questions at a press conference Thursday in New Orleans, the singer asked those at the conference to stand before she belted "The Star Spangled Banner," and after said with a laugh: "Any questions?"  The 31-year-old singer said she's a "perfectionist" and wanted her performance for President Barack Obama to be a memorable one. She called the day "emotional." "I practice until my feet bleed and I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra," she said. "Due to no proper sound check, I did not feel comfortable taking a risk. It was about the president and the inauguration, and I wanted to make him and my country proud, so I decided to sing along with my pre-recorded track, which is very common in the music industry. [details] Posted: 31 Jan 2013 11:18 AM PST  Well, San Francisco 49'ers cornerback, Chris Culliver seems to have had a 'change of heart' on his own 'GAY PLAYER BAN' from the locker room. Now it appears he WELCOMES GAYS in the locker room now! I am sure the 49'er PR CAMP was on this matter with the SWIFTNESS and MADE him apologize and change his VIEWS!!  Chris Culliver apologized Thursday, Jan. 31, for anti-gay comments he made to a comedian during Super Bowl media day, saying "that's not what I feel in my heart." "I'm sorry if I offended anyone. They were very ugly comments," Culliver said during an hour-long media session. "Hopefully I learn and grow from this experience and this situation." He said he would welcome a gay teammate to the 49ers, a reversal of his remarks to Artie Lange two days earlier during an interview at the Superdome.  "I treat everyone equal," Culliver said. "That's not how I feel." He added that he realized his comments were especially offensive to many people in San Francisco and the Bay Area, which is home to a large gay community. "I love San Francisco," Culliver said. During the interview with Lange, Culliver responded to questions by saying he wouldn't welcome a gay player in the locker room. He also said the 49ers didn't have any gay players, and if they did those players should leave. San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh met privately with Culliver to discuss the remarks. "I reject what he said," Harbaugh said. "That's not something that reflects the way the organization feels, the way the rest of the players feel." The coach would not discuss if Culliver would face discipline from the team, such as a fine or loss of playing time. "He pledged to grow from it," Harbaugh said. GLAAD REACTS to Culliver's statement and more DETAILS after the JUMP!  The 49ers participate in the NFL's "It Gets Better" anti-bullying campaign. Three organizations working for LGBT inclusion in sports -- Athlete Ally, You Can Play, and GLAAD -- reacted to Culliver's remarks and later acknowledged his apology. "Chris Culliver's comments were disrespectful, discriminatory and dangerous, particularly for the young people who look up to him," said Athlete Ally Executive Director Hudson Taylor. "His words underscore the importance of the athlete ally movement and the key role that professional athletes play in shaping an athletic climate that affirms and includes gay and lesbian players." Calling Lange's questions "real disrespectful," Culliver said he realized he was speaking to a comedian and not a journalist. "That was pretty much in a joking manner," the player said. "It's nothing about how I feel." (source) It's interesting how he changed his whole viewpoint in a matter of a day. My thing is, you can feel or think anyway you like, but when you are a public figure, and a role model to some, you just have to watch what you say, particularly to the MEDIA. His remarks made to Artie Lange had to come from a REAL place in his mind. He said it. So to change-up that quickly seems to me like damage control. That's just my OPINION.... [video] Posted: 31 Jan 2013 10:41 AM PST   "Why is it that Arabs are always shown as either oil-rich sheiks, terrorists or belly dancers?" said Warren David, president of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee. Imam Ali Siddiqui, president of the Muslim Institute for Interfaith Studies, said the commercial "portrayed Arabs as backward and foolish Camel Jockeys." The groups also want to know why the Arab, one of several figures vying for a giant bottle of Coke, isn't eligible to win the race in an online poll. Coke says characters in the ad were a "nod to movies of the past." CBS declined comment. Coca-Cola spokeswoman Lauren Thompson said Coke took a "cinematic" approach with the ad, employing the characters as a nod to movies of the past. "Coca-Cola is an inclusive brand enjoyed by all demographics," she said in an email. "We illustrate our core values, from fun and refreshment to happiness, inspiration and optimism across all of our marketing communications." Ayoub said ADC intended to contact Coke and CBS Corp on Thursday to "hopefully start a dialog." "I want to know why this happened and how can we fix this if possible before Sunday," he said. Do you think the ad was RACIST?? If it is, then it is racist towards Vegas show girls, desert bandits and motorcycle riders as well.... and let's not mention the CAMELS!
