Posted: 26 Jan 2013 09:43 AM PST

The Honda Battle of the Bands 2012 was a HUGE SUCCESS and as usual, the HBCU's  showed, and proved why the ARTS definitely need to be in schools.

Who will DOMINATE THIS YEAR???? Brandy is set to perform and this will be an EVENT to remember.  I will give you the HIGHLIGHTS, but until then... LET's LOOK BACK at LAST YEAR's EVENT!!!!

The precision moves and musicality alone takes a certain degree of skill and technique.  These are skills that all college students will need once they embark on their adult lives.  KEEP MUSIC ALIVE in SCHOOL!  Eight bands were chosen for this year's invitational:  Albany State, Prairie View A&M, Bethune-Cookman, Jackson State, Tennessee State, Winston-Salem State, Virginia State and South Carolina State University.  All of the schools performed well-- SCSU won the Verizon Fan Favorite award.  They had the most fan support and of course she showed and proved on the field.  Hometown girl, Monica was in the building performing a medley of her hits and the hosts for the event was V-103's Ryan Cameron and Sytonnia!  Take a look at some highlights in PICTURES!

Prince UNCUT!! Tell 'Em Why You Mad #Prince! Speaks about his LABEL WARS and his ISSUE with #Madonna!!? [details]

Posted: 26 Jan 2013 09:27 AM PST

Music icon Prince has never been one to keep his emotions bottled up, especially when it comes to the topics of his creative freedom and music. So, keeping in true Royal fashion, Prince does not disappoint in his recent interview with the newly-revamped Billboard magazine. On the cover, the 54-year-old enigmatic artist dons his afro, mesh sunglasses, a velvet smoking jacket, and a blouse (yes, BLOUSE) opened to reveal his taco meat somebody apparently told him is sexy. Inside the issue is when things get even more bizarre. Prince was asked an array of questions on several topics, but the most noteworthy are his conversations about his highly-publicized battle with his long-time label Warner Bros. records and his ISSUE with MADONNA!!!!!

GET all the DETAILS after the JUMP!!!!!

If you will recall, in the early 90's, Prince went through a period where he had such disdain for the label that he released a slew of lackluster albums just to fulfill his contractual obligations because he was unhappy with the way the label was treating him and stifling his creativity and artistry. He even went so far as to scribe the word "slave" on his face during appearances, changing his name to an unpronounceable "male-female" symbol, and referring to himself as "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince". Or, so we THOUGHT that was the reason. As it turns out, Prince says the true reason he and the label had it out is because they WERE giving Madonna too much shine.
"It was always about Madonna," Prince says. "She was getting paid, but at the same time we were selling more records and selling out concerts on multiple nights."
Prince and Madonna actually dated while they were labelmates, but this was also the reason for the demise of their personal and professional relationship.
Prince also expressed his dislike for artists remaking other artists songs, especially HIS! He made it no secret that one cover in particular, Maroon 5's remake of his classic "Kiss", was not exactly his cup of tea. "Why do we need to hear another cover of a song someone else did? Art is about building a new foundation, not just laying something on top of what's already there," he says. Okay, but ummmm… correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Prince cover "Betcha By Golly Wow," "La-La Means I Love You" and "Everyday is a Winding Road"? I guess when you're a legend, you are exempt from the things you criticize others of?
In conjunction with the Billboard cover story, Prince also released a track online earlier this week entitled "Screwdriver". No one knows if this is going to be on an upcoming album or jif he is just giving us filler to remind us that he's not dead yet… LOL. Anyway, enjoy the track below and the new issue of Billboard is on newsstands.
