What A Long, Strange Trip It’s Been Posted: 31 Oct 2013 12:40 PM PDT Looking back, I guess it was all rather romantic, if completely insane. But as a world-weary 26-year-old, disillusioned in a way only melodramatic mid-twentysomethings can be, I barely hesitated when a British man I'd only just met asked me to travel around his country for two weeks in his VW camper van. Of course I would! It seemed perfectly sensible. I was going to the U.K. anyway, for the wedding of his cousin (a friend and colleague) to my best friend, and they could vouch for him. Plus, I'd met his two young daughters, who clearly adored him, when the three of them were visiting the house of the bride- and groom-to-be in Ontario, just across the border from Detroit.
